Energy Storage: How to Ensure Safety with Disconnection Solutions for Batteries and Inverters

The development and expansion of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is an increasingly prominent reality in the industrial and energy sectors. This evolution brings with it the critical need to implement effective electrical protection and disconnection solutions to guarantee the safety, reliability, and efficiency of installations.

Expertise and Technological Adaptation

Thanks to our extensive experience in renewable energy applications—particularly in the photovoltaic sector—and our commitment to innovation, we have developed a specialised range of products for use in energy storage systems. Our solutions are designed for system integrators, battery OEMs, and PCS/inverter manufacturers, addressing the needs of both residential and large-scale industrial installations.

Selecting the appropriate switch-disconnector not only ensures safety but also allows for the scalability and adaptability of installations in response to evolving energy demands. Telergon’s solutions are engineered to integrate into the most demanding projects, adding value from the design phase to commissioning.

Solutions by Energy Storage System Level

  1. Battery Protection Unit (BPU)

Each battery module requires an individual disconnection device to ensure protection and safe isolation. For this purpose, we offer switch-disconnectors rated up to 400 A / 1000–1500 Vdc, suitable for modular container installations or centralised electrical panels.

  1. Battery Combiner Unit (BCU)

To group multiple modules, we offer the BCU equipped with switch-disconnectors rated up to 5000 A. This unit enables effective system-wide isolation to facilitate maintenance, ensuring both installation integrity and technician safety.

  1. Power Conversion Systems (PCS)

Bidirectional inverters require robust DC switching solutions. Telergon provides DC switch-disconnectors rated up to 1800 A and AC devices up to 800 Vac, suitable for different configurations via manual or motorised operation.

Key Technical Advantages of Telergon’s Energy Storage Solutions

  • High connection and disconnection capacity
  • Conditional short-circuit current up to 120 kA rms
  • Options for isolation only, ON-OFF load switching, and remote disconnection
  • Modular, compact design with ease of installation
  • Compliance with safety standards to minimise operational risks
